The fonds consists of minutes, correspondence and reports of the Pacific Northwest Bibliographic Center (1972-1983), subject files and B.C. Newspaper Project records of the British Columbia Library Association (1982-1987), survey data of the Pacific Northwest Library Association (1984), administrative records of the B.C. Post-Secondary Interlibrary Loan Network and B.C. Union Catalogue (1977-1986). In addition, the fonds includes reports and correspondence relating to the University of British Columbia Librarians' Association (1977-1979).

Margaret Friesen obtained her B.A. (1966) and B.L.S. (1970) from the University of British Columbia. She began work in the UBC Library in 1970 and became Division Head of Interlibrary Loan in 1972. Friesen served as president of the British Columbia Library Association (1983-1985) and as executive liaison to the B.C. The Pacific Northwest Library Association (PNLA) was founded in 1909 during a three-day conference at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in Seattle, Washington. The original members included librarians from Washington and Oregon, as well as the Provincial Librarian of British Columbia, but the membership grew to include librarians from Idaho, Montana and Utah.
